Updated:  11/12/2009 at 3:02 PM

The Vipers High School Boys Lacrosse team has announced the hiring of its coaching staff and is excited about the prospects of building a program that the Vandegrift community will be proud of.   While the club team in not officially sanctioned, affiliated or supported by Leander ISD or Vandegrift   High School , its players and coaches are supported by the Vipers Boys' Lacrosse Booster Club and all players are students at Vandegrift.

The Vipers have hired Head Coach David Lapin and Assistant Coach Eric Glass.   Lapin is the former Head Varsity Coach at Westlake High School.  Prior to that, he was instrumental in creating the Westwood HS lacrosse team.  Coach Lapin has been playing lacrosse since he was young and played in Long Island for WT Clark High School in East Meadow ISD and played for Georgia Tech where he was a leading NCAA scorer.  He has also represented the U.S in the World Games and played for notable men's teams such as the Crease Monkeys and the Long Island Jesters.   Coach Lapin said, “I am excited to be part of the Vandegrift Lacrosse family and look forward to building it into the top program in Central Texas from the youth level through High School”. He added, “Any Vandegrift freshman or sophomore is welcome to come out and play; no experience necessary”.

Assistant Coach Eric Glass is a former Assistant Coach at Westlake High School.   He played youth lacrosse in Baltimore Maryland then moved to Austin where he played for Westwood High School under Coach Lapin.   He attended Texas Tech and played for its team when it won the Lone Star Alliance Championship in 2005.

Club President, John Lichtenberger is also very pleased with the addition of coaches   Lapin and Glass stating, “Needless to say we are fortunate to have such notable coaches that are passionate about the game, that have deep roots and looking forward to developing our players to be the best.   We are excited about our inaugural season.”
